Pfizer: COVID-19 vaccine 90% effective, lame duck Trump tries to claim the good news

Pfizer claims that initial studies have determined their COVID-19 vaccine is 90% effective at preventing the disease. Lame duck President Trump has tried to share in the good news after his humiliating defeat at the polls.

In a tweet Vice President Pence said “Thanks to the public-private partnership forged by President @realDonaldTrump, @pfizer… Coronavirus Vaccine trial is EFFECTIVE, preventing infection in 90% of its volunteers”

Trump’s daughter has also joined in the lie by tweeting: “Thanks to the tireless work of Operation Warp Speed and the partnership it struck with Pfizer, HHS & the Military in July to support distribution + logistics, Pfizer can massively scale production and nationwide delivery of +100 M doses of the vaccine!”

However, the drug company has never accepted any federal money for their research and development of this new vaccine and was not a part of the program that Pence tweeted about.

Kathrin Jansen, the head of vaccine development at Pfizer said, “We have never taken money from the US government or from anyone,”

The only time Pfizer will receive any money from the US government will be according to s press release in July 2020 for any vaccine is when; “The U.S. government will pay the companies $1.95 billion upon the receipt of the first 100 million doses, following FDA authorization or approval. The U.S. government also can acquire up to an additional 500 million doses.”

There are 50 million known cases globally and more than 1.26 million reported deaths, Australia has 27,478 cases and no new deaths.
