Chisholm: Desperate Libs put up fake AEC posters to trick Chinese Voters

Liberals in the seat of Chisholm have made posters in Chinese to look like AEC information. The translation reads “the correct way to vote is to put a number 1 next to the Liberals and number every other box.”

According those on the ground the fake posters are at every booth.

Under electoral legislation election material has to comply with the following:

• It has to be authorised.
• can’t be within 6 metres of the entrance to the polling place.

The Commonwealth Electoral act says “A person shall not…print, publish or distribute, or cause, permit or authorise to be printed…any matter or thing likely to mislead or deceive an elector in relation to casting a vote.”
