Friend of Australia Senator John McCain has died 81
John McCain has died of brain cancer at 81 a day after halting treatment.
He was Once a prisoner of war, he made two bids for president and was a towering presence in the Senate.
McCain served as senior United States Senator from Arizona, a seat to which he was first elected in 1986. He was the Republican nominee for President of the United States in the 2008 election, which he lost to Barack Obama.
Prime Minister Morrison tweeted “Senator John McCain was a true friend of Australia who was committed to strengthening the alliance between our two nations. He was a man of great courage and conviction. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, Cindy, and all the McCain family during this time.”
