Good News the risk of dying during middle age has dropped substantially

Good news for millennials, Young Aussies in their twenties now have an almost 90 per cent chance of surviving until they are 70, compared with just a 54-72 per cent chance for there peers living in the 1960s, according to Australian research.

The study used data to simulate the chance of a 20 year old living in 1960 reaching the age of 70 , through to a 20 year old living in 2010.

The modelling suggests our risk of dying during middle age has dropped substantially, especially when it comes to dying from cardiovascular diseases.

But its not all good news, with less of us dying during middle age, disability rates in older Australians are projected to double between 2006 and 2031, something the researchers say need addressing.
