Proposed changes to 18C defeated in the Senate
The proposed changes to 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act has been defeated in Senate.
The Turnbull Government wanted to replace the words “insult, offend and humiliate” with “harass”.
Labor, the Greens and some of the crossbench voted against it.
The bill now only contains procedural changes to the Human Rights Commission Act – which were requested by the Human Rights Commission themselves.
The Greens has said that Malcolm Turnbull needs to promise the Australia community that this is the end.
