Turnbull capitulates to the Liberal Party’s right wing over 18C

The Turnbull Cabinet has discussed section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act, including  the complaints process overseen by the Human Rights Commission and have decided that the wording of 18C will change from it unlawful for someone to do an act that is reasonably likely to “offend, insult, humiliate or intimidate” someone because of their race or ethnicity to it is unlawful for someone to do an act that is reasonably likely to “harass” someone because of their race or ethnicity.
Labor’s Tony Burke told reporters: “Around the world, it’s International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Here in Canberra for the Liberal and National parties, it’s the day to find new ways of permitting racial hate speech.”
