Bangladesh: 5 suspected Islamist militants arrested ‘planning New Year attack’
Five suspected Islamist militants have been arrested in Bangladesh. Authorities believe that the group were planning to attack new years celebrations.
The five are believed to be members of a faction of the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh group.
Monirul Islam, head of the counter-terrorism police unit, told a news conference “They planned to attack on New Year’s Eve,”Authorities
The head of counter-terrorism police unit refused to give further details when asked about possible targets and how the attacks would happen.
The police also seized 60 kg of explosives, when the five were arrested in overnight raids in the capital.
The Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh group has pledged allegiance to ISIS.
