Somalia: Parts Of The Country Now In Famine

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud he drought situation in Somalia in some areas has turned into a “famine.”
Somalia has called on aid agencies, the international community and donor countries to respond to what they described as “a very alarming drought situation.”
More than a quarter of a million people died in the famine in Somalia between October 2010 and April 2012 and between 1991 and 1992 drought and war contribute to famine across the country; about 250,000 famine-related deaths reported in 1992
Somali Government officials at the time accused the international community for not acting quickly enough to save lives.
Food Security and Nutrition Analysis Unit – Somalia has reported that generally, the month of November was marked by cessation of rains in the north while in the south, the intensity of the 2016 Deyr rains (October- December 2016) reduced substantially. Overall, the Deyr rains were largely below average throughout much of Somalia.
