China say flyover routine, Japan scrambles jets to monitor planes
China has conducted what they call a routine flyover exercise over strategically important waterways near Taiwan and Japan. Japan scrambled two jets to monitor the Chinese planes.
The Chinese Defense Ministry confirmed jets were ordered to fly over the Miyako Strait in Japan and the Bashi Channel next to Taiwan. The two waterways connect the south and East China sea with the Pacific Ocean.
The Chinese flyover was the first since the Taiwanese President spoke to Donald Trump on the phone.
