Young North Korean Man Flees to Japan By Boat
Japanese police have reported they
have found a man claiming to be a
North Korean citizen wandering around
The port city of Senzaki this weekend.
According to CNN and NHK the man in his twenties had travelled from North Korea to Japan by boat.
He claims he started his journey on
Friday night and reached Japan on Saturday.
Police have said that when they found him he was “drenched in water”.
Reports from Japan say the man was
escaping from North Korea because he
was caught watching videos from
South Korea. It is illegal to watch videos from the South. Those caught can face years in the North Korean gulag system.
The man is now being held in Omura
Immigration centre to confirm his identity.
South Korean officials are yet to comment.
