Cambodia Receives $600M In Aid from China – China Expects Support In International Forums From Cambodia
China is set to give Cambodia $600 million in aid, with the understanding that Cambodia will support China in international forums. This supports is also expected in discussions over the future of the South China Sea.
The announcement of aid was made during the 11th biennial Asia-Europe meeting which was held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
This aid will be used to support Cambodia with election infrastructure you, education and health projects. Part of the money will be spent on organising elections planned for 2017 and 2018.
China and Cambodia are key allies in South East Asia. China is also Cambodia’s largest donor in foreign aid.
Cambodia also offers tacit approval of China’s actions in the South China Sea.
