Failed Coup Attempt In Turkey Leaves Thousands Injured
Failed attempted coup in Turkey has left over 90 dead and thousands injured. Over 1,500 soldiers have surrendered and are now in custody. Those in custody are mostly young, rank and file soldiers.
The military attempted to take control of the country in the early hours of Saturday morning. The army said it is was trying to protect the democratic system in Turkey.
Turkish President Erdoğan called on citizens to “take to the streets, squares and airports to show unity and the nation’s power”.
“We will overcome this, those who attempted this act will pay the highest price”
Reports came in that stated Turkish soldiers were inside the buildings of the Turkish state broadcaster TRT in the country’s capital Ankara and had taken control of the ruling party’s buildings.
In a statement from the Turkish military, the military has said “Turkish Armed Forces have completely taken over the administration of the country to reinstate constitutional order, human rights and freedoms, the rule of law and general security that was damaged.”
