The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has released figures that show reports of sexual assault have reached a six year high.
2015 saw a record number of 21,380 victims reporting incidents to the police across Australia.
William Milne at the ABS said “This was an increase of three percent on the previous year,”
The majority of victims were female with over four in five and 15-19 year olds seven times more likely to have been victims.
The figurers also show that 1/3 victims had experienced victimisation within the family or domestic relationship. With most assaults happening in a residential location.
