Howard Doesn’t Regret Iraq War – He Stands By His Decision

The Former Prime Minister John Howard has stood by his decision to take part in the war in Iraq lead by the USA. Speaking to the press today Mr Howard said “I defend that decision. Of course I defend it. I don’t retreat from it.”

Mr Howard also disagrees with the idea that the invasion of Iraq has lead to the current situation in Iraq and the Middle East. He said “”I don’t share the view that the terrible conflict in the Middle East is the direct consequence of the operation”

He did say that he regrets the lose of Australian life in Iraq during the invasion. Former President Bush shares the same sentiments with Mr Howard. A spokesman for former U.S. President George W. Bush, who ordered the invasion of Iraq in 2003, released a statement Wednesday saying, “Despite the intelligence failures and other mistakes he has acknowledged previously, President Bush continues to believe the whole world is better off without Saddam Hussein in power.”
