Bishop: the Australian Parliament and Government take full responsibility for Iraq war

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has said this morning the Australian Parliament and Government take full responsibility for Australia’s involvement in the Iraq war.

Speaking on Sunrise this morning the Foreign Minister said that the decision to go to war was based on the best information they had at the time. Ms Bishop said that an apology from the former Prime Minister John Howard was up to him.

The Australian Labor Party criticised the Government’s decision at the time when party leader Simon Crean said “involvement would spawn terrorism and greatly increase the risk of terrorist attacks on Australian soil”
