Grandmothers Against Detention of Refugee Children have protested outside Parliament House in Canberra today against the detention of babies and children of people seeking asylum.
Gwenda Davey, founder of Grandmothers Against Detention of Refugee Children, said: “We have listened and we heard our Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull say that even one child in detention is one child too many. We agree. And we are now demanding that Mr Turnbull put his words into action. Free the children, free them now.”

The group said that they are going to tell elected representatives they will not stand by and allow the detention of babies, children, and their families.
The group says they will not watch 267 asylum-seekers in Australia be returned to Nauru – babies, children and families. “We’re heading for Federal Parliament to seek to free asylum seeker and refugee children and their families” the group has stated on their website.
