Queensland Treasurer Curtis Pitt has stated Queensland does not support the Turnbull Government’s recommendation for a widening of the base or an increase to the GST.
“Hiking the GST at the same time as cutting workers’ penalty rates shows the Liberal Party is out of touch with the challenges of everyday Australians, especially here in Queensland.” commented Mr. Pitt.
Mr. Pitt also said there has also been no commitment from the Federal Government to engage about restoring the $18 billion in cuts Queensland faces to health and education.
“The Opposition Leader Bill Shorten has said the GST will hurt Australian households to the tune of $4,000 per annum.”
Echoing the same words as Mr. Shorten saying that unfairly adding to the tax burden of low to middle-income earners is not tax reform. Queenslanders can rest assured that when it comes to fairness, the Palaszczuk Labor Government will support them every step of the way.”
