Israel has launched a series of airstrikes on Gaza overnight in retaliation for rocket fire launched from the area earlier in the day.
The Israeli administration holds Hamas accountable for the attack whereas and an ISIS-related group (the Omar Brigade) has claimed responsibility. Israeli authorities have said that Hamas is culpable for any projectiles launched from the Gaza Strip.
Four strikes on the Gaza Strip have been reported by bystanders, Israeli F-16 jets carried out the attack while drones were seen circling overhead.
There has been no statement of injuries emanating from the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli defence force said that two projectiles were fired from the Gaza Strip towards Israel with a one exploding on the Gaza side of the border while the other one exploded in open land in Israel.
The Israeli strikes apparently targeted positions of the Palestinian Hamas organization’s militant arm, the al-Qassam Brigades.
