TAI: 68% Of Australians Support Tax-Deductible Donations To Environmental Advocacy Groups

Recently The Australia Institute (TAI) commissioned a national poll of 1,408 people into the level of support for tax-deductible donations for environmental advocacy groups.

Speaking about the results the Executive Director of The Australia Institute, Ben Oquist said “Most Australians support tax-deductible donations to environmental advocacy. BHP & Rio Tinto should take note”

The national poll found 68% of respondents supported tax-deductible donations to groups that advocate changes to environmental policy while 55% say groups that run legal cases to uphold environmental laws should be able to tax-deductible donations.

When it came to the influence big business and mining companie have “6 in 10 Australians are concerned big business and mining companies have too much influence.” Said Mr Oquist. Only 27 per cent of respondents said the believe environmental groups had too much influence in public debates, while 34 per cent said they had not enough influence.

Coalition politicians and mining lobby groups say tax-deductible donations to environmental advocacy should be banned.
