Prime Minster Turnbull and Sussan Ley have lost the support and confidence of the AMA and the AMA President, Brian Owler, after the health minister announced she has commissioned a review the Medicare Benefit Schedule.
Mr Owler said he is deeply disappointed in Government’s attack on integrity of Medicare and the medical profession to cut health funding and services.
Federal Health Minister Sussan Ley has commissioned a review of the 5,700 of medical services subsidised under the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) including looking at knee arthroscopy, bone mineral density testing for older people and colonoscopies to name a few.
The Federal Government has said it is carrying out a “spring clean” of the entire system.
Some are saying this is a another way for the government to try and destroy Medicare, and fear Australia will end up where only the rich will be able to afford to get proper medical treatment and care.
