A 25-year-old man was arrested following a five-month joint investigation into the importation of ice, and other drugs of dependence, from China to Australia via the post.
The investigation was conducted by members of the Joint Organised Crime Task Force (JOCTF) which targets organised crime and comprises of the Australian Federal Police (AFP), Victoria Police, Australian Border Force and the Australian Crime Commission (ACC).
Investigators executed four search warrants on Wednesday 23 September in Essendon, Ascot Vale and Melbourne’s CBD.
Police allegedly located two clandestine laboratories, heroin, drug manufacturing equipment, various firearms, Tasers, knuckle dusters, swords, batons, fireworks and throwing stars.
The Essendon man was charged with trafficking a drug of dependence, trafficking a commercial quantity of heroin, possess explosives and a number of firearm and controlled weapon offences.
He appeared before an out of sessions hearing Wednesday evening where he was remanded in custody to reappear at a later date.
Police also charged six men earlier this month with drug trafficking offences as part of the operation.
