The education minister has come out today and said that the government doesn’t support the idea of means testing families for public education. He did say however “If the states and territories want to charge wealthy parents fees for public schools that’s a matter for them.”
In an effort to dismiss the publics concerns about the possibility of means testing the education minister said the Australian Government is not responsible for charging parents for public school fees.
Other senior government ministers have also continued to side step the issue but saying that it is up to the states and what they do. The Prime Minister said that he pleased the states are thinking creatively about the issue.
