Russian President wants to send parliamentary group to lobby congressional representatives to not support a military intervention in Syria
Vladimir Putin wants a group of Russia’s Parliament, the Duma, to the United States Congress to get congressional representatives to not support a military intervention in Syria.
The Chair of the Federation Council, Valentina Matviyenko, on Monday outlined the idea during a meeting with the Russian President.
Matviyenko said she hopes for an “active dialogue” with U.S. lawmakers about possible military intervention in Syria.
Putin called the idea “very timely and correct.” Many citizens of the United States will strongly disagree with the idea as it will be seen as a foreign power interfering in the United States democratically elected government.
Russia has deeply opposed to the idea of any intervention in Syria following the chemical attack east of Damascus. Neighbouring countries like Turkey and Israel agree with the United States.
