Obama: Chemical attack in Syria is a challenge to the world
President Obama has said the kind of attack that has happened in Syria is a challenge to the world.
The President also said “Wecannot accept a world where women and children and innocent civilians are gassed on a terrible scale”. More than 1222 people were killed in last weeks attack and has left hospitals in the area whelmed helping the victims. Hundreds of children’s bodies have been left unidentified due to the fact that they have lost all family memebrs in the attack as well.
Obama also stated that this kind of attack threatens all nations national security interests by violating well-established international norms against the use of chemical weapons and by further threatening friends and allies of the United States in the region, like Israel and Turkey and Jordan. “….it increases the risk that chemical weapons will be used in the future and fall into the hands of terrorists who might use them against us” the President commneted in a public adress this week..
The President stated that he meant what he said and that he was serious, that the “world has an obligation to make sure that we maintain the norm against the use of chemical weapons”. He reiterated that he still had not made a final decision about various actions that might be taken to help enforce that norm.
The pPresident has had the military and his team look at a wide range of options. The US has consulted with its allies. And he has also consulted with Congress as well as with all the interested parties.
