France has announced that it fully supports the African-led International Support Mission to the Central African Republic (MISCA) in its efforts to protect the civilian population. In a statement issued today France sated It also welcomes the initiatives of the Economic Community of Central African States and the African Union to find a lasting solution to the crisis in the Central African Republic.
In cooperation with our African partners, France is working with the UN Security Council members on a draft resolution to support the action of the African Union and MISCA. France stated that they hope that this draft resolution can be presented in New York in the next few weeks.
With respect to the security situation, France has, since the start of the crisis, tirelessly argued that the restoration of security be given the highest priority. Calling on the transitional authorities to do everything possible to ensure that the perpetrators of abuse against the civilian population, including those who came from the ranks of the Séléka, are prosecuted.
