Japan dispatches Self-Defense Force Instructors to – International Peace Support Training Centre, Kenya
The Government of Japan has dispatched two members of the Japan Self-Defense Forces (SDF) as instructors for courses offered by the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC) in Kenya.
In the “Human Rights (South Sudan) Course” Lieutenant Colonel Norihisa URAKAMI will give lectures based on the SDF’s peacekeeping operations in South Sudan, to South Sudanese civil and military officials to be engaged in conflict management, and in the “Protection of Civilians (Somalia) Course” from September 30 to October 11, Captain Hideki HAYASHI will give lectures based on the SDF’s antipiracy activities off Somalia, to Somali civil and military officials to be engaged in protection of civilians.
Japan has been providing assistance to African peacekeeping training centres with the goals of enhancing the peacekeeping capabilities of African countries and of maintaining the stability of the region
. Additionally, in the future, Japan intends to provide meaningful assistance towards peace and security in Africa not only on the financial front, but also by drawing upon Japan’s qualified human resources.
